| The C.D. Howe Institute’s reputation for independent, reasoned and relevant public policy research of the highest quality is its chief asset, and underpins the credibility and effectiveness of its work. Independence and nonpartisanship are core Institute values that inform its approach to research, guide the actions of its professional staff and limit the types of financial contributions that the Institute will accept.
Rigorous external review of every major policy study, undertaken by academics and outside experts, helps ensure the quality, integrity and objectivity of the Institute’s research. The Institute will not publish any major study that, in its view, fails to meet the standards of the external-review process. In addition, the Institute requires that its authors disclose any actual or potential conflicts of interest of which they are aware.
The C.D. Howe Institute will not endorse any political party, elected official, candidate for elected office or interest group. In its mission to educate and raise the level of debate on public policy issues, the C.D. Howe Institute provides policy advice to interested parties on a non-exclusive basis.
As a registered Canadian charity, the C.D. Howe Institute accepts donations as a matter of course from individuals, private and public organizations, charitable foundations and others by way of general and project support. The Institute does not accept any donation that inhibits its independence or that of its staff and authors to pursue scholarly activities and disseminate the results of research. Further, the Institute will not accept any financial contribution that stipulates a predetermined result or policy stance. |
