2010 – Colin Busby
With a wave of baby boomers due to leave the workforce in coming decades, Manitoba’s best bet to replace their economic contribution is the province’s large Aboriginal youth population. But that will require an aggressive effort to improve poor Aboriginal education outcomes, according to a C.D. Howe Institute e-brief. In “Manitoba’s Demographic Challenge: Why Improving Aboriginal Education Outcomes Is Vital for Economic Prosperity,” Policy Analyst Colin Busby notes that without improving the education outcomes among Manitoba’s Aboriginal youth – a significant share of the population – the province will be limited in its ability to offset the fiscal effects of the boomers’ departure from the workforce.
