Ian MacGregor, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, NW Refining Inc.

Ian is the President, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of North West Refining, a 50 per cent owner in the North West Redwater Partnership which is building the first new refinery in Canada since 1984. It is one of the largest construction projects in the works in Canada.  Construction of Phase One of the Sturgeon Refinery peaked at over 7,000 Albertans and still has hundreds of people working there on a daily basis.  

Jeanette Patell, Vice President, Government Affairs & Policy, GE

Jeanette Patell is the Vice-President of Government Affairs and Policy for General Electric (GE) in Canada. In this role, she leads GE Canada’s engagement on public policy issues with governments and seeks to promote growth of the company in Canada and around the world. She has also served as co-chair of the Energy Diversification Advisory Committee to provide recommendations to the government of Alberta on building a more resilient and diversified energy sector in the province. Prior to joining GE, Jeanette was a diplomat with Global Affairs Canada. Her career in the Canadian Foreign Service focused on international trade policy and securing market access for Canadian exporters, with postings to the Embassy of Canada in Washington D.C. and the Mission of Canada to the European Union. She is bilingual (English & French) and is a graduate of Mount Allison University with a B.A. (Hons) in International Relations.

 

Geoffrey Trickett, Vice President, Olefins Products, NOVA Chemicals Corporation

Geoff Trickett is currently the Vice President of Olefins Products for NOVA Chemicals, based in Calgary, Alberta. In this role, he is responsible for overseeing the commercial sales and marketing of NOVA’s Olefin products including Ethylene, Propylene, Crude Butadiene, and the balance of the Co-Products produced at NOVA’s three manufacturing facilities in Alberta, Ontario, and Louisiana.  He is also responsible for NOVA’s Business Analysis & Intelligence group supporting the commercial efforts of the Olefins and Feedstock organization. Geoff is also a member of the NOVA Leadership Council and the Petrochemical Business Team.

Geoff joined NOVA Chemicals in 1998, after working for Bayer Rubber and Technical Chemical Services for three years following graduation. Throughout his career, Geoff  has worked in various parts of the business including Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, and Sales and Marketing. After spending almost 15 years at NOVA’s Ontario location, Geoff moved his family to Calgary in 2013 to take on the role of Manager, Co-Products Marketing.

From 2014-2016, Geoff lead the Ethylene Business Team as its Director and as of January 2017, Geoff has been in the role of Vice President, Olefins Products.

He is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario and earned his BSc. in Chemistry (’92) and his BESc. in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering (’95).

 

Kelsen Vallee, Managing Director, Investment Banking, CIBC World Markets Inc.

Kelsen Vallee leads the Calgary Infrastructure and Power investment banking team for CIBC.  This team is responsible for financial advisory and capital raising for participants in the energy infrastructure sector, including companies in the midstream, pipelines, power generation and utilities subsectors

Relevant and representative advisory experience includes:

  • Advising Wolf Midstream (CPPIB) in acquiring MEG Energy’s Access Pipeline and Stonefell Terminal stakes (2018)
  • Advising Pembina Pipeline on its acquisition of Veresen Inc. (2017)
  • Advising Power Asset Holdings and Cheung Kong Infrastructure in the formation of Husky Midstream (2016)
  • Advising Veresen Inc. in its transaction with KKR to acquire and develop Cutbank Ridge Partnership’s gas gathering and processing portfolio (2015)

Mr. Vallee has led equity and/or debt financings for AltaGas, Capital Power, Enbridge, ENMAX, EPCOR, Inter Pipeline, Kinder Morgan Limited, Maxim Power, North West Refining, Pembina, TransAlta, TransCanada, Veresen Westcoast Energy, and others.

Mr. Vallee graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) Finance from the University of Ottawa,  where he was awarded the Faculty Plaque.  He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charterholder.
