A Report from Canada’s Economic Strategy Tables

The collective recommendations of the Economic Strategy Tables were made public on September 24, outlining an ambitious roadmap to spur the economy and enable more Canadians to join the middle class. Join the Chairs of 3 of the tables (Advanced Manufacturing, Agri-Food and Resources of the Future) to discuss the findings of the report and the plan for turning Canadian economic strengths into global advantages.

Murad Al-Katib, Chair, Agri-Food Table; President and Chief Executive Officer, AGT Food and Ingredients

Murad Al-Katib, President, CEO and Board member of AGT Food and Ingredients Inc. An international agri-food commodity trading strategic business and financial thinker, Murad founded AGT Foods in 2001, building a Canadian start-up into a global billion dollar value-added pulses, staple foods and ingredient company.

Murad serves as the National Agri-Food Strategy Roundtable Chair, on the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada Board and as the Economic Development Regina Board Chair. Past Boards include the CSCA, Pulse Canada and Canadian Government advisory boards and panels.

Murad’s awards include the 2017 Saskatchewan Order of Merit, a U of R Honorary Degree, 2017 “Oslo Business for Peace” Honouree, 2017 EY “World Entrepreneur of the Year”, 2016 UN Association of Canada “Global Citizen Laureate”, PROFITGuide Magazine’s “30 Most Fabulous Entrepreneurs of the Past 30 Years” list, Globe & Mail “Canada’s Top 40 under 40” and the Western Producer “44 Innovators Who Shaped Prairie Agriculture”.

 

Charles Deguire, Chair, Advanced Manufacturing Table; CEO and Co-Founder, Kinova Inc. 

Charles Deguire is the Chair and Founder of Kinova, a company that designs and manufactures robotic solutions for individuals living with upper-body mobility impairment, allowing them to have freedom of movement.  Deguire developed Kinova during his Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineer at École de technologies supérieure de Montréal. Deguire is the Chair of the Advanced Manufacturing Economic Strategies Tables and he was awarded the Governor General’s Innovation Award in 2016.

 

Lorraine Mitchelmore, Chair, Resources of the Future; Former President and Country Chair of Shell Canada

Lorraine Mitchelmore is Chair of Resources of the Future Economic Strategy Table.  She has more than 30 years of oil and gas experience, with prominent roles including CEO of Enlighten Innovations, various senior positions in Royal Dutch Shell, including Executive Vice-President Heavy Oil Americas and President and Country Chair of Shell Canada.  She has also held positions in BHP Petroleum, Chevron and Petro Canada.  Ms. Mitchelmore holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geophysics from Memorial University of Newfoundland, a Master’s degree in Geophysics from the University of Melbourne, and an MBA from Kingston Business School.  She is the co-founder and co-chair of Smart Prosperity.  She serves on the Bank of Montreal board of directors, Catalyst Canada and NAFTA Environmental Advisory council.
