NAFTA 2.0 Negotiations and the Redefined Role of the US Congress

Conference Call

Conference Call with Christopher Sands, Senior Research Professor, Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS)

Donald Trump campaigned on making a better NAFTA deal or walking away from the agreement entirely, and the impossible has become reality. The US Congress has redefined the US negotiating process, giving itself a larger role than it had when the Canada US Free Agreement and the first NAFTA were negotiated. On July 17, the US Trade Representative is expected to publish the US negotiating objectives for NAFTA 2.0, thirty days before the negotiations can begin on August 17. Join us for a conference call to discuss what it means for Canada to have the US Congress at the negotiating table.
