On June 29th, 2018, the Hon. Peter Bethlenfalvy was appointed President of the Treasury Board Secretariat by Premier Doug Ford, signaling the government’s continued commitment to restoring trust and accountability in Ontario’s finances. Minister Bethlenfalvy leads the government’s efforts on openness and modernization, which includes the line-by-line audit of the province’s finances and multi-year fiscal planning.

An internationally-renowned figure in the financial services sector, Peter draws upon over 25 years of senior leadership experience in capital markets, risk management and investments. Most recently, he served as Chief Investment and Risk Officer at CST Consultants. He was also the Senior Vice President, Financial Regulations, at Manulife Financial, where he spearheaded strategy and monitoring efforts of global financial regulatory systems. Prior to that, Peter served as Co-President at DBRS Ltd., where he managed the team that downgraded Ontario’s short and long-term debt ratings in 2009. He started his career with TD in New York, where he ultimately served as President and Chief Operating Officer of TD Securities.

Peter has extensive experience working with boards and sat on McGill University’s Desautels Capital Management Board of Directors. In addition, he served on the Board of Crohn’s and Colitis Canada as a member of their Finance, Audit and Risk Committee and Development Committee.

Passionate about making a difference in his community, Peter believes in giving back and making a difference through organizations like the True Patriot Love Foundation. In 2014, along with 24 leaders and 12 injured soldiers, he skied 100km to the Magnetic North Pole. Collectively, the team raised $2.1M for critical programs that support service men, women, Veterans and their families.

Peter holds Bachelors of Science and Masters of Business Administration degrees from McGill University, during which he completed a year abroad at the HEC School of Management in Paris. He also holds a Master of Arts in Political Science from the University of Toronto, and is a recent graduate of the Rotman School’s ICD Board of Directors program.

He is married to his wife Paula, and is the proud father of three children: Alexandra, Allegra, and Nicholas.
