Ben Brunnen, Vice President, Oil Sands, Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers

Ben Brunnen is the Vice President, Oil Sands with the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers. Ben is responsible for a wide range of technical, regulatory and social policy issues facing Canada’s oil sands industry, where he advocates for a competitive, safe, and environmentally and socially responsible energy industry. Prior to his appointment as VP, Ben was the Manager of Fiscal and Economic Policy, where he was responsible for strengthening the fiscal and economic climate on behalf of CAPP members in areas relating to royalty policy, taxation, labour force, and the overall economic competitiveness of the industry across Canada.

Prior to joining CAPP Ben was an independent policy and economic consultant, and also served as the Director of Policy and Chief Economist with the Calgary Chamber of Commerce. Ben has published and consulted in the areas of energy policy, municipal finance, labour policy, and economic forecasting.

The Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP) represents companies, large and small, that explore for, develop and produce natural gas and crude oil throughout Canada. CAPP’s  member companies produce about 85 per cent of Canada’s natural gas and crude oil. CAPP's associate members provide a wide range of services that support the upstream crude oil and natural gas industry. Together CAPP's members and associate members are an important part of a national industry with revenues from oil and natural gas production of about $120 billion a year. CAPP’s mission, on behalf of the Canadian upstream oil and gas industry, is to advocate for and enable economic competitiveness and safe, environmentally and socially responsible performance.

 

Al Kemmere, President of the Board, Alberta Association of Municipal Districts and Counties, and Councillor, Mountain View County

Al Kemmere was elected to his first term on the AAMDC Board as Director of District 2 (Central Zone) in the fall of 2010.

He was elected Councillor and Reeve of Mountain View County in 2004 and has since been re-elected as Councillor for a fourth term in 2013. In his years on council, Al has been involved in numerous committees as the Central Alberta Economic Partnership (CAEP) as Chair,  Municipal Area Partnership (founding member), Mountain View Waste Commission as Chair, Vice Chair of the AAMDC Mayor/Reeves committee, and  a member of the AAMDC Standing Issues Committee on Social Issues to name a few. 

In November of 2014, Al was elected as President of the AAMDC and was re-elected in 2016 for another 2-year term.

Al has a strong background in agriculture with experience running a purebred dairy farm as well as farmed with a combination of mixed and custom farming and trucking. He and wife Kathy have raised their three children on their farm north of Olds. 

Al has always tried to take a leadership approach when it comes to municipal partnerships and collaborations. 

 

Susan L. Riddell Rose, President and CEO, Perpetual Energy

Ms. Riddell Rose has been President and Chief Executive Officer of Perpetual Energy Inc. since its inception in 2002. Ms. Riddell Rose graduated from Queen's University with a Bachelor of Science in Geological Engineering (1986) and has over 30 years of experience in the Canadian oil and natural gas industry. She began her career as a geological engineer with Shell Canada. From 1990 until 2002 Sue was employed by Paramount Resources Ltd. in various capacities, culminating in the position of Corporate Operating Officer. She has been a director of Paramount Resources Ltd. since 2000. Sue is also a director of Newalta Inc. and a member of the Board of Trustees of Brookfield Canada Office Properties. She is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta, the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists, the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and is a Governor of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers.

Ms. Riddell Rose is actively involved with a number of not-for-profit organizations including; United Way of Calgary, the Patrons Council for UNICEF Canada, Fulbright Canada and Queen’s University.
