January 8, 2018 – William Robson, President and CEO of the C.D. Howe Institute, announces re-appointment of Steve Ambler as a Fellow-in-Residence, the David Dodge Chair in Monetary Policy, and a member of the National Council at the Institute.

“Steve is an outstanding macroeconomist and has made major contributions to the C.D. Howe Institute’s work on monetary policy,” stated Robson. “We are delighted to be continuing the collaboration.”

Ambler is a professor of economics at the Université du Québec and has served as chair of the Department of Economics between 2012 and 2015. He has also held visiting positions at the Université de Paris I (Panthéon-Sorbonne), the European University Institute, and the Institut für Höhere Studien in Vienna.

He is the author of numerous articles in journals such as the Journal of Monetary Economics, the Review of Economics and Statistics, and the Journal of Money, Credit and Banking. He also served as an associate editor of the Canadian Journal of Economics and Canadian Public Policy.

A former president of the Société canadienne de science économique, Ambler completed a secondment at the Bank of Canada as Special Adviser from September 2006 to July 2007. He also served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Canadian Economics Association from 2007 to 2012. His other research appointments include a senior fellowship position with the Rimini Centre for Economic Analysis.

Ambler holds an M.Sc. in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a Ph.D. in Economics from Stanford University.
