Leah Anderson was appointed Interim President and Chief Executive Officer of Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation in August 2021.
Ms. Anderson began her public service career in 1993. Since 2016, Ms. Anderson held the position of Assistant Deputy Minister of the Financial Sector Policy Branch at the Department of Finance Canada. In this role, she worked on policy related to financial sector issues, including financial system stability, housing finance, federal financial sector framework policies in areas such as deposit insurance, consumer protection, and retail payments oversight. Since the onset of the global pandemic, her work focused on the extraordinary financial system response and financial support initiatives for small business. She also worked on the Government of Canada’s debt management and foreign reserves programs. Following the 2008 Global Financial Crisis, as Director General, Ms. Anderson led the development of resolution strategies and tools for systemically important financial institutions.
Prior to her role in financial sector policy, Ms. Anderson was the Associate Assistant Deputy Minister at Finance Canada, where she worked on economic development policy and corporate finance across sectors, including the environment, natural resources, transportation, infrastructure, and innovation. She has also worked as a policy consultant to the financial sector.
