Summary

Randy Bauslaugh led the Pensions, Benefits & Executive Compensation practice at McCarthy Tétrault, one of Canada’s most respected business law firms.  He served as an expert trustee for the OECTA Employee Life & Health Trust, the largest health and welfare trust in Canada and he is a volunteer director of the Canadian National Exhibition Association.

Randy is considered by national and international ranking agencies such as Chambers Global and L’Expert, to be a leader within the pensions and benefits industry in Canada and internationally.  He has been involved with many of the leading Canadian pension and benefit cases over the past 30 years, including as counsel to the Canadian Nortel pension funds, as a mediator/arbitrator in disputes such as Air Canada’s dispute with striking CAW workers over pension rights, and as counsel in several leading pension surplus and plan merger cases.  He has also advised governments on reform of pension and social security laws, including the Government of Bermuda in developing and implementing The National Pension Scheme and the Governments of Nunavut and Northwest Territories in connection with the Northern Employee Benefits Services Pension Plan Act. Randy has lead many industry associations and served as Chair of the International Pension and Employee Benefits Lawyers Association.  In 2014 he was inducted into the Canadian Pension & Benefits Institute Hall of Fame.

Randy obtained a BA from the University of Waterloo in 1977 and his LLB from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1981. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1983.
