The C.D. Howe Institute, Canada’s leading independent, non-partisan public policy research Institute, has launched the Centre on Financial and Monetary Policy, designed to be the foremost hub of influence and direction on critical and emerging issues in both financial services and monetary policy. The C.D. Howe Institute’s leadership voice, visibility, and scholarly reputation in financial and monetary policy position the Centre uniquely in Canada to build upon its tradition of having real impact that improves Canadian living standards.
 
With the launch of the Centre, we are looking to hire a Senior Policy Analyst. This hire will report directly to Jeremy Kronick, Associate Vice President and Director of the Centre.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • a graduate degree in economics – or a field with a strong economics component – and 3-5 years of applied experience
  • a solid empirical research grounding in macroeconomics, monetary policy, and finance;
  • knowledge of Canadian policy issues, with particular active interest in issues related to the financial system, including financial stability, prudential regulation and supervision, and the division of responsibilities of Canada’s regulatory bodies;
  • superior ability to communicate, orally and in writing, to specialist and non-specialist audiences; ability to communicate in French would be an asset; and
  • a firm grasp of Stata and/or other statistical software.

Duties of the Senior Policy Analyst will include:

  • leading the Institute’s Financial Services Research Initiative (FSRI), ensuring output targets are met, maintaining strong relationships with FSRI co-chairs, and being responsive to requests from FSRI members;
  • authoring key Institute projects, which you will identify and bring to the research team and Project Approval Committee for approval;
  • supporting key Centre projects, as will be identified by your supervisor, through research and drafting of reports, in collaboration with other Institute research staff, and within the timelines identified for the projects; and
  • contributing to the Institute’s publication process by commenting on papers and paper prospectuses that circulate internally.
