Summary

Heather Evans is the Executive Director and CEO of the Canadian Tax Foundation. Founded in 1945, the Foundation is an independent tax research organization that promotes understanding of the Canadian tax system through analysis, research, and debate, providing perspective and impartial recommendations. She leads a team based in Toronto and Montreal and works with the Foundation’s Board of Governors to serve over 12,000 members.



Previously, Heather was a partner and held various roles with Deloitte LLP, most recently leading a team of 1200 professionals as National Managing Partner, Tax and serving as a member of the firm’s Global Tax & Legal Executive. Prior to joining the executive leadership team of the firm, she led the Toronto regional tax practice and served as a director on the board of Deloitte LLP. Called to the Ontario Bar, she practiced tax law in two Toronto-based firms before moving to Deloitte LLP. For 25 years, Heather advised high net worth clients and family offices on issues relating to taxation, domestic and cross-border tax and estate planning, philanthropy, succession and wealth management.

Heather graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University with a Master of Laws (Taxation). She has a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Western Ontario and a Bachelor of Arts from McMaster University. She is a member of the Ontario Bar Association, the Law Society of Ontario, the Canadian Tax Foundation and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP). She has served on the boards of Deloitte LLP, the Canadian Tax Foundation and STEP. A frequent author and speaker, she has also been Adjunct Faculty at the University of Western Ontario Faculty of Law and Osgoode Hall Law School at York University.
