Ask Me Anything… About Shrinking the Curve

Webinar with Dr. Christopher Mody, Professor and Head, Department of Microbiology, Immunology & Infectious Diseases Microbiology, University of Calgary

The C.D. Howe Institute invites you to join us on Friday, April 24 for an Ask Me Anything webinar with Dr. Christopher Mody, head of the Department of Microbiology, Immunology & Infectious Diseases at the University of Calgary. Dr. Mody will present on why we should focus on shrinking the curve, rather than flattening it, as well as respond to questions about what it will take to reduce COVID-19 cases and return to normalcy.

If you have any questions for Dr. Mody, please send them to us in advance and tune in on April 24 to hear his responses.

C.D. Howe Institute events and webinars are open to members and their guests.

Please follow this link or contact events@cdhowe.org to register.

My laboratory has a long-standing interest in the T cell response to opportunistic infections of the lung. Ongoing projects include the immunologic response to Cryptococcus neoformans and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Recently, we have turned our attention to the factors controlling the synthesis and secretion of IL-15 and its role in T cell response.

We have been studying a number of aspects of the human response to Cryptococcus neoformans. We have identified a component of the cell wall of C. neoformans that is responsible for a mitogenic T lymphocyte resonse, and are now studying the mechanism that the mitogen influences the T cell properties to Pseudomonas exoenzyme S, which induces cytokine production and T cell apoptosis. Finally, our studies of the role of IL-15 in T cell responses to C. neoformans led us to studies of the post-translational control of IL-15 secrection.
