Summary

Bruce Gordon is a director and former chair of Manulife Assurance Company of Canada. Bruce graduated from Carleton University with a Bachelor of Commerce degree and qualified as a Chartered Accountant.

Mr. Gordon retired from Manulife Financial Corporation in March 2007, where he held the position of Senior Executive Vice President and General Manager, Canada and was a member of the Executive and Management Committees and CEO Manulife Canada.  During his 18 year career, he held various senior positions.

Mr. Gordon serves on the board of the C.D. Howe Institute and its Investment Committee, and MIST Opportunities Inc.  He is also Chairman and President of Taullas Enterprise Ltd.

He is also involved in the Kitchener Waterloo Community, currently Chairing Barnraisers. He is also a Partner in Social Venture Partners and was a member of its Network Growth Committee and Chaired a group looking at Responsible Investing for the University of Waterloo. 

He has also been Campaign Chair for rare’s Waterfall Campaign.

He has also served on the board of St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation as well as chairing the hospital’s Leadership Committee, and was a member of the University of Waterloo’s Board of Governors, Executive Committee, Finance and Investment Committee, Audit Committee and Pension Committee.

He was previously Chairman Manulife Bank and Manulife Trust and was Chair of their Audit Committee.  He has also served as Chairman Standard Life Canada, a Director of Aurigen Capital, Partner Re Canada and chair of its Investment and Governance Committee, the Advisory Committee for the Conrad Centre for Business, Entrepreneurship and Technology as well as the Chair of the Development Committee and Chairman of the Centre in the Square in Kitchener.
